Whats The Story?
In 1938, just a few years after prohibition ,before World War II, and maybe before your Grandparents were born, the Jack Daniels Distillery needed more room to store their barrels of Whiskey.

This led to the building of Barrel House 1-14 at the Distillery in Lynchburg , Tennessee

If you fast forward 78 years to 2016 , the distillery decided to celebrate the 150 year anniversary of the Jack Daniels Whiskey Brand. For the celebration they decided to renovate their oldest barrel house into a venue and whiskey tasting experience for its visitors.

They choose Barrel House 1-14 to be remodeled into something that would enhance the experience of the Jack Daniels lovers that come to visit the distillery.

This barrel house is one of the first buildings to greet people and welcome them as they arrive at the distillery.

Before 2016 , Barrel house 1-14 used to house 1000's of whiskey barrels, of course it still houses many.

The Barrels are made of charred American white oak , spend years sitting in one spot and occasionally getting rotated while they go through the distillation process.

The Barrels will sit in the barrel house in the hot humid Tennessee summers in an un-air conditioned Barrel House for years.

As the temperature and humidity would changes the barrels will expand and contract.
What DoesThis Have To Do With The Trays?
I bet you are wondering to yourself, "what do these trays have to do with barrel house 1-14"?

Of course you are, I would be too.

Well, these trays are made from the beams that once held up 1000's of barrels of whiskey in that very barrel house.

These same beams are the ones that endured the heat, cold and inevitably encountered some of the Whiskey which is called the "Angels Share."

During the remodeling in 2016 large areas were converted from holding up barrels to becoming open spaces for events and tastings areas.

The beams that were pulled out for the tasting area and event space are the very beams these serving trays are made from.

I am sure you have already figured out that there is only a very limited amount of these trays that can be made from this historic wood.
Less Than 100 Available
Once all these trays are made and sold ( only abut 100 can even be made), there will be no more for anyone!

Unless, the Jack Daniels company decides to take down barrel house 1-14 , which I don't see happening anytime soon.

I'm sure at this time you may be a little skeptical, but since you are still reading , I assume you are still interested .

You probably have a lot of questions on your mind about this story even being true.

Honestly , I don't blame you.

I was super skeptical at first, but I had to do some research
I Was Super Skeptical, Too
How did I come upon these beams?

Well, It was really by chance. Here is a short version of the story.

Since almost every project we do here at Rustic Ridge Table Co. is with old reclaimed wood that has a story, we are always on the look out and searching for unique pieces.

Back in early 2017 I found a listing online selling some old reclaimed beams. They looked unique and  like something we would use so I called the gentleman to come see them.

Going to see these beams took me on a 2 hour Journey to  the middle of nowhere southern Tennessee from our shop here in Nashville , TN

Once I got there I began to thoroughly inspect  and look over the beams. From this point they seemed like they would be great to build some tables with, but....

I needed to know where they were from.

Why?

Because everything we sell has a story behind it and I want potential clients to know where their table came from so when they have people ask about it they can have a great conversation around it.

As I began to ask the Gentleman questions about the beams he became hesitant and very vague about the beams origins.

Eventually after asking him several times I got him to tell me that these were from the remodel of the Jack Daniels 1-14 Barrel house.

I kept asking him over and over because this seemed too good to be true.

Even if the guy was lying to me I was still going to buy a few of these old beams because they  looked great and I knew I could get my money back out of them.

I negotiated a price with the gentleman, loaded up a few beams and headed home
All I Could Smell Was Whiskey
During the ride home I just kept thinking about these beams , where they were from and what luck I had finding them.

But....

I was still skeptical. I needed some sort of proof.

Once I got home, before I even researched these beams, I was so excited to work with them I unloaded a few and I cut one of the beams down to a reasonable size.

Guess what I could smell?

I could smell the Angels share of Whiskey that had leaked from those old barrels that had been sitting on these beams  for years going through the aging process.

The smell of the whiskey was one part of the scenario that made me a believer of this mans story.

I immediately got on my phone and began to research the story the man I bought these from told me.

I researched the story about the remodel , the time frame, and looked at pictures on google images of what the beams look like inside of the barrel house now.

Everything I could see matched and backed up this mans story.
Was He Going To Sell Them To Me?
After I did as much research as I could, I called the man and asked how many of the beams he had left.

He told me he had about 40 or so. I immediately said I want to buy the rest of them.

Once I said that he became a little hesitant.

There was an awkward pause on the phone.

I wasn't sure what to say.

After the few seconds of silence , he spoke up and said. "well....what you going to do with these beams.

I told him that I own Rustic Ridge Table Co. and we wanted to make some tables with them. Everything that we made has to have a great story behind it and this fit that criteria perfectly.

That seemed like a good enough answer to him and he said, "OK, I'll see you tomorrow."

The next day I drove 2 hours back to the middle of nowhere Tennessee to retrieve these beams.

I told myself that I was sure these were the beams from the barrel house 1-14, but in reality I still had just a little skepticism

As I looked over all the beams I also had my phone out looking at pictures on google images of the inside of the barrel house and comparing those pictures to the beams I was buying .
On the bottom of the pile of beams I came across two huge wooden braces cut in a unique way with holes that looked like they were for some really big pegs.

I have NEVER seen any braces like this before from any of the reclaimed wood projects we have done.

While looking at them I found a picture online of the barrel house that showed the braces, and guess what?

They were exactly the same size, same cut  and everything

I was now 100% convinced this gentleman was telling me the truth.

After I loaded up all the beams I asked the gentleman why he didn't just come right out yesterday and tell me where these beams came from.

He said, "I don't know, I guess I was just being a good keeper of this history."

Letting Go Is So Hard
I have had these beams in my shop for almost 2 years. We originally wanted to turn these beams into some nice coffee tables and dining tables for people to enjoy.

I have only made 2 tables from these so far, and one of those was a coffee table I had at my house and has now been sold to a nice family out in Mt. Juliet , TN.

It has been really difficult for us to sale anything made from these beams.

Not because it doesn't sell or people aren't constantly asking me about them, but because its really hard to part with these beams just knowing all the history , uniqueness and rarity behind them.

I think the reason I haven't actively tried to sell these beams is because I know that once they are gone, then they are gone forever.

It almost feels like I have to make people qualify themselves and prove their worth to be able to own them.

It may be easier to adopt a dog at the pound than it has for me to sell any of these beams.

Sometimes I just feel like a wood hoarder, Or at least that's what I have been called.

But...I have decided that more people in this world should get to enjoy these beams in their home instead of just me having them sitting in our shop collecting dust.

Instead of me building just a handful of tables, I decide to build some serving trays out of them so that more people can have the opportunity to own this little piece of history in their home.

The only downside to all of this is that I only have enough beams to make about 100 trays.

After that its all gone.

One of the things I really enjoy about anything we sell is hearing stories from clients that have one of these trays and how it always sparks up a great conversation with others when telling them of the history and uniqueness of what they have in their home

I am very thankful for your purchase and that you will have the opportunity to have this in your home.

I hope that this serving tray allows you to enjoy its history, share its story with loved ones or to connect with someone new

  What clients Are Saying:
"...Constantly Getting Compliments!"
Gorgeous, high-quality pieces. I love that no one else has a coffee table that looks like mine and it is constantly getting compliments! Buying a new house next year and can’t wait to buy our second Rustic Ridge original!
Rachel M. - Nashville , TN
"... Gorgeous Pieces
Endless Compliments"
I’ve had two gorgeous pieces made for my home from Rustic Ridge. The first piece, about 3 years ago, is a custom built trunk to hold blankets in my living room. I loved that one so much, & had endless compliments over the years, so I knew exactly where to go when I was looking for a unique reclaimed coffee table, this past spring. Daniel’s work is outstanding, sturdy, and timeless. It’s a purchase you definitely won’t regret!
Molly M.- Richmond, VA
"...Highly Recommend"
Daniel built me 3 of the most beautiful tables out of reclaimed boxcar wood. A coffee table, an end table, and a sofa table. The quality of his products is second to none. Well made, hand crafted, and each piece is unique. No 2 are alike. Character of the wood is tremendous. Highly recommend that if you are looking for a custom table, visit Daniel. If you don’t see what you want, ask him to make it. Worth every penny. Thanks Danie
